Vehicle Extraction Training

In late August Assistant Chief Chad Furrow instructed the department on a replica he made of an incident that he responded to as a Lexington firefighter recently.

The scenario was that a large tree trunk fell on an occupied car. This situation was challenging and required that we use most of our vehicle extraction equipment. Everyone had a chance to get their hands on the equipment and learn about stabilizing the vehicle and the tree.

Some of us have been trough similar training, and a few of us have done it for real. Looking back on previous incidents puts the training in perspective and shows us how important this is. This is not a job where you can learn on the job. You have to have good leadership that knows what to do at 3am when you arrive on scene.
