The struggle with recruitment and funding

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our own Keith Everitt for speaking on behalf of Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department and helping bring attention to the challenges that volunteer fire departments face every day.

The struggle with recruitment and funding
Central Kentucky volunteer fire departments struggle with recruitment, funding
Seventy-five percent of fire departments across Kentucky are all volunteer-based, according to the United States Fire Administration. Many of those struggle to find people willing to dedicate their time.

Keith's words reflect the reality of rural fire service—recruiting and retaining volunteers, funding equipment and training, and ensuring we have enough firefighters available when our community needs us most.

We are proud of the dedicated volunteers who continue to answer the call, and we appreciate WKYT for sharing this important story. We hope it helps others understand the sacrifices made by volunteer firefighters and the vital role they play in keeping our communities safe.

Thank you, Keith, for being a voice for Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department and for your continued dedication to serving our community.
